you call THAT a macchiato?
After taking my plastic bottles to a recycling place and receiving a whopping $1.25, I decided to treat myself to coffee here in the Ranchos. I wanted to support the local business because I can't imagine they stay very busy. I scanned the menu and thought I'd stick with my usual, an iced caramel macchiato. I watched as the girl working squirted syrup into my cup and then went to the fridge and started pouring a dark substance in. She didn't make her way over to the espresso machine, so I curiously asked, "is your espresso cold?" "Yes," she answered. ick! That can't be fresh, I thought. Espresso shots "die" quickly if they aren't mixed with milk or foam right away. I continued to watch as she poured milk over the cold espresso and added ice and caramel on top. That's interesting, I thought. The nature of a macchiato is for the syrup, milk and ice to go in first and then the shots of espresso (usually hot) get poured on top along with caramel drizzle. It's quite a beautiful drink and tastes delicious. This one, not so much. I guess I've become somewhat of a Barista snob after working at Starbucks.
